“Mathematical Economics” Course by XMU College of Economics Selected as National First-Class Undergraduate Courses (Third Batch)

Recently, China’s Ministry of Education announced the list of the third batch of National First-Class Undergraduate Courses. The “Mathematical Economics” course by Xiamen University’s College of Economics was selected as a Face-to-face First-Class Course.

“Mathematical Economics” is a core foundational course for economics majors and serves as a key bridge connecting mathematical tools with economic analysis. Offered to students majoring in economics, finance, statistics, public finance, and related fields, it plays a vital role in the advanced economics curriculum.



To date, the College of Economics at Xiamen University embraces 11 National First-Class Courses and 16 Provincial First-Class Courses.


Currently, the College boasts nine undergraduate programs designated as National First-Class Undergraduate Construction Sites, including Economics, Finance, Public Finance, Statistics, International Economics and Trade, Financial Engineering, Economic Statistics, Taxation, and International Business.


Its top-tier talent cultivation program, comprising the Wang Yanan Economics Undergraduate Innovation Experimental Class and the Gregory Chow Economics Undergraduate Innovation Experimental Class, is included in the first batch of the Ministry of Education’s Top-notch Basic Discipline Student Training Program 2.0 and the Ministry of Education’s first batch of New Liberal Arts Research and Reform Practice Projects.


In 2025, in response to the demand for top-tier talents in the new era, the College launched two Dual-degree Bachelor’s programs (Finance + Data Science and Big Data Technology, and Economics + Data Science and Big Data Technology) to cultivate interdisciplinary talents, and established three micro-specializations (AI Finance, International Trade and Taxation, and Data Science) to advance interdisciplinary integration.


The College’s education project, “Serving the Strategy of Globalization, Cultivating High-Quality Talents - Innovation in Internationalized Cultivation of Economics Discipline Talents”, won the First Prize of 2022 National Teaching Achievement Award of Higher Education (Undergraduate).


Its achievements in talent cultivation have also received the National Second Prize for Higher Education Teaching Achievement Awards on three separate occasions, with projects including “Cultivation Model for Globally-oriented and Innovative Economics Talents”, “Comprehensive Reform and Practice in Econometrics Discipline Development and High-Level Talent Cultivation”, and “Integrated Development and Cross-disciplinary Innovation: Innovation and Practice in Cross-disciplinary Talent Cultivation in Statistics under the New Liberal Arts Framework”.
